How does the iStraw work?

To clean and disinfect:

If the iStraw should become blocked or the flow of filtered water is too slow or inhibited, then the following cleaning instructions should be followed.

  1. Dissolve a water disinfection product such as Puritabs or Micropur tablet (17mg Sodium Dichloroisocyanurate per tablet) in a receptacle containing 500ml of clean water.
  2. Remove the mouthpiece cover and place the iStraw in the receptacle so that it is fully submerged.
  3. After 20 minutes, take the iStraw out of the receptacle and gently shake water residue off before use.
  4. Do not tap the iStraw on a solid object to shake water residue off.
  5. Do not strenuously shake the iStraw when removing water residue lest the filter membrane be damaged.

Before the iStraw is stored away, it must be cleaned and disinfected in the manner recommended and completely dried. It must then be stored in a cool and dry place.

If operating and maintenance instructions are observed, the iStraw can be expected to filter up to 500 litres of municipal or town tap water. The capacity of the iStraw to filter water depends on the quality of water to be filtered.
